Being safe in the mountains

I am a certified mountain leader (certifierad fjälledare) according to the Swedish Mountain Leader Standard (fjälledarnormen) and have forty years of experience exploring the Swedish mountains in all seasons. As a mountain leader, I always put safety first, but I also have the knowledge and ability to make each tour enjoyable and rewarding—even when conditions are demanding. In the mountains, you must always be prepared for all kinds of weather, and the terrain often presents challenges. But with my experience and training, I know how to create memorable mountain adventures in a safe and responsible way, even when the going gets tough.

The Swedish Mountain Leader Standard (Fjälledarnormen) was established in 2005 through a collaboration between several organizations connected to the mountain environment, under the coordination of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency. Today, responsibility for maintaining and developing the standard lies with the Mountain Leader Council (Fjälledarrådet). I completed my own training through the Swedish Mountain Club (Svenska Fjällklubben). It took me 2.5 years to complete all the required training and to gain the practical experience needed for certification. By making sure that the mountain tour you book is led by a certified mountain leader, you ensure that it is carried out in a safe and professional manner.
